Nutrition plays the biggest role in getting to and eventually maintaining a healthy bodyweight.
Learning what food choices to make will help you accomplish your goals and ensure your diet provides all of the nutrients you need.
◾️ What are Nutrients?
Nutrients are substances that your body must obtain from its diet, because it cannot produce them on its own or not in sufficient quantities to maintain structure and healthy function
◾️ Nutrients Divided into 2 categories:
1️⃣ Macronutrients: Provide calories (energy) that we need to consume in large amounts for normal function.
• Carbohydrates 🥔 🍞
• Fats 🥜 🥑
• Proteins 🥩 🍗
2️⃣ Micronutrients: Needed for normal bodily function, however does not provide calories (energy).
• Vitamins/Minerals
◾️What are calories?
A calorie is a measure of energy consisting carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, which provide different amounts of calories. How each of these are measured correspondingly:
• Carbohydrates: 4 calories/gram
• Fat: 9 calories/gram
• Protein: 4 calories/gram
Depending on many different factors, the average adult needs between 1,600 and 3,600 calories per day for maintaining weight and effective body function.
